Religions - Christianity
Christianity is a religion based on the story of Jesus, from the New Testament of the bible. Christians believe Jesus is the only Son of God , the model of a virtuous life, an incarnation of God, and the savior of humanity, and that he suffered, died, and was resurrected, ascended into heaven, and will return to judge the living and the dead, granting everlasting life to his followers. Christianity is classified as an Abrahamic religion and began as a Jewish sect in the Mediterranean. It was the dominant religion of the Roman Empire, and presently represents up to to a third of the population worldwide. The core Christian belief is that, through the death and resurrection of Jesus, sins can be forgiven by God, offering salvation and the promise of eternal life. Christians consider the resurrection of Jesus to be the cornerstone of their faith and the most important event in human history, on which much of Christian doctrine and theology is based. According to the New Testament, Jesus was buried within a tomb, and rose from the dead three days later. Jesus' death and resurrection are commemorated by Christians in all worship services.
